About Me

Hi there! My name is Haley Butler and I will be graduating from Butler University in May of 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a minor in Mild Interventions. GO DAWGS!!

I want to be a teacher, because I want to make a difference in my students life the way all of my elementary teachers did for me. I will whole heartedly love each and every one of my students and I will do whatever it takes to help them learn.

Some of my hobbies include walking my 2 puppies (they are sisters/twins), hiking, skiing, designing clothes, painting, and baking any type of dessert.

Teacher Belief Statements

My Beliefs About Children

I believe that children are capable of inquiring about the unknown. They are risk takers. They are creative. They are impactful, intuitive, unique, and explorers. Loris Malaguzzi's theory states that children are autonomously capable of making meaning from their daily life experiences through mental acts involving planning, coordination of ideas, and abstraction. As an educator it is my job to give my students the opportunity to make meaning through observations, experiments, and group work. Children are the future.

"Creativity seems to emerge from multiple experiences, coupled with a well-supported development of personal resources, including a sense of freedom to venture beyond the known." -Loris Malaguzzi

My Beliefs About Teaching

I believe that teaching is more than a job. Teaching is a passion where you have the opportunity to make relationships with your students and empower them to learn more. Teaching is perseverance, dedication, and a loving heart with open hands. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs connects to my beliefs about providing children with the best opportunities throughout their learning experience. It is my job to make sure all of my students know how much I care about them and that I am there for them on every step of their learning journey. The learning is unstoppable when children and teachers work together.

"One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth." -Abraham Maslow

My Beliefs About Education

I believe that education is more than just a subject. Education is a 2-way street where teachers and students learn from each other. Education is teaching the whole child and a way to show love. Loris Malaguzzi states, "Our task is to help children with the world using all of their potential, strengths, and languages to overcome any obstacle presented by our culture." Education is the difference and I am proud to be apart of a field that continues to grow and shape young minds.

"Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water. Through an active, reciprocal exchange, teaching can strengthen learning and how to learn." -Loris Malaguzzi
